Royal Parks Half Marathon 2019 · 13 October 2019 ·
Welcome to Artemis' JustGiving page. Team Artemis is running the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2019 to raise money for the Royal Marsden Childrens' Unit and their Paediatric Research Fund.
Artemis (the youngest Wood girl) was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia
(JMML) in June this year. It is a rare form of myelodysplasia but has some characteristics of leukaemia.
She will need a stem-cell/bone marrow transplant to make her
better, and has already undergone multiple operations, chemotherapy and procedures in Hampshire, notably at Southampton University Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (Winchester). Lucky for Artemis, her big sister Matilda is a donor match for her.
She will have the transplant at the Royal Marsden (Sutton)
in mid-September. She is being so brave, and if you would like to follow her treatment and progress in more detail, please sign up to her page at: www.caringbridge.org/visit/artemisalicewood
The Wood girls' God Parents wanted to do something positive and pro-active as part of Artemis' battle against JMML (they could have just offered to babysit the other two!) and are therefore dusting off their running shoes to test their middle age physiques against the streets of London. It's worth pointing out that some of them have never owned running shoes. Anyhow, they have managed to rope me into the adventure, and with little time to train it should at least be amusing for the spectators.
We would all be incredibly grateful if you could cheer us on
to the finish line by donating to the Royal Marsden which is doing so much to help Artemis.
A note from the The Royal Marsden: The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
