World Land Trust is working in Borneo with conservation partner Hutan to extend forest habitat for Orang-utans along the Kinabatangan River in Sabah. This appeal aims to secure a corridor of land to link the Keruak Virgin Forest Reserve with the larger Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary (the Keruak Corridor).

River habitat is important for Orang-utans and other threatened species such as the Bornean Pygmy Elephant. It is urgent to secure this safe corridor before existing oil palm plantations are extended to the riverbank and permanently separate the reserves. If there is no protected corridor between the reserves, isolated Orang-utan populations could face extinction.

WLT aims to raise £1,000,000 to fund land purchase and associated costs, and we are delighted to report that we raised more than £725,000 during Big Match Fortnight in October 2013. (Note, not all Big Match Fortnight donations and pledges are showing on this page, but they will be as soon as they are processed.)

If we can raise more than our target it will go towards widening the corridor and making it even more valuable to wildlife.

A big thank you to everyone who donated to WLT's Borneo Rainforest Appeal. Each and every one of you helped us meet the million pound target. But more money is needed and our fundraising efforts don't stop here! We shall continue to use this page, so please give generously!

Great news! World Land Trust (WLT) has met its million pound target for the Borneo Rainforest Appeal! The news was formally announced on 6 May 2014 at a celebration of WLT’s 25th anniversary hosted by WLT Patron, Sir David Attenborough.

15/05/14 11:53

When WLT launched Big Match Fortnight the target was £300,000. In fact we raised more than twice that - a staggering £725,152! Thanks to the great generosity of our supporters we have already sent funds to our partner Hutan to make down payments on land in the Keruak Corridor.

28/11/13 11:56

WLT raises over half a million in donations and match funding during Big Match Fortnight. Donations are still being processed so the final total raised during the fortnight will be even higher.

17/10/13 12:39

WLT launches Big Match Fortnight to raise funds for the Borneo Rainforest Appeal. All donations between 2 - 16 October 2013 will be matched. Sign up for an email reminder on the WLT website.
