The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

On May 22nd my friend Woz and I commence a ten day festival of cycling, tea & cake consumption, moderate delerium and extreme gluteal soreness. During this time we intend to ride bikes from one end of our country to the other on a 1000 mile odyssey between Lands End & John O Groats

Along the way, I’d like to raise as much as I can for MacMillan Cancer Support who provided great help for my grandfather when he was ill. I’ll be “digging deep” on a daily basis and I’d like to ask you all to do the same. It would be marvellous if I could raise a pound for every mile covered. So please take five minutes to make a donation and be as generous as you can afford, it will be very gratefully received. I will circulate a few photos of our journey upon my return to show how things went.

Many thanks

Wally

Epilogue

June 10th 2010

Well, we made it! It was an extremely gruelling, but truly amazing and life-changing journey. I’ve taken much from the whole experience, in particular though I have been deeply moved and spurred on by all your warm messages of support and your unbelievably generous donations. Thanks to you all, you’ve each made a difference.

I have uploaded a few photos of the trip, they don’t prove that I didn’t catch the train but if you squint at the last one you’ll see I’ve lost about half a stone.

The following folk deserve particular mention for efforts way over and above the call of duty:

John Vipond (El Presidente) – Next time I do something like this will you plan and run the whole thing?

My Mum – Mad as a brush but fantastic, just stay out of Merseyside.

Annie – Thanks for putting up with me, your friendship and support were inspired.

Tony G – Really great to touch base with a fellow LEJOG cyclonaut. Thanks for joining up with us.

Tink & Diamond – 5 star board and lodgings. Promise I wont fall asleep next time.

Dom – Wouldn’t have been a road trip without you man.

Ruth – My best friend and an awesome wife. Thanks for your understanding and selfless support.

Woz – Where do I start? Top-one-nice-one man, you tore the peloton (and your bike) apart.

The following establishments also made generous donations to MacMillan and get a freetime thumbs up.

Warwick House Hotel – Penzance

Tyne Wells B&B – Launceston

Chew Valley Garage – Chew Stoke, Somerset

Thanks again

 Wally
