Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2020, I accidentally discovered a lump on my neck coming from a family that has and continues to battle I assumed the worst. Cancer! After months of seeking medical help, blood tests, ultrasounds and biopsies, my worst nightmare was confirmed in September, at the age of 24 years old when my life and career had just started, I was found to have 2 tumours in my neck.

On 15th December when all my friends were breaking up for their Christmas holidays, I went through my first thyroidectomy, and on Christmas Eve I was officially diagnosed with Follicular Thyroid Cancer, a cancer unheard of in my age group and for so long it had gone completely undetected, with no symptoms or side effects.

Fortunately, treatment is available and I am booked to have a completion thyroidectomy, and then I will start Radioactive iodine therapy in a hope to kill any left over cancer cells. The risks of this surgery are very high and there is a chance I could be left with life changing differences.

Unfortunately, I will not be the only one. Prior to my diagnosis I was dismissed and told by professionals, “not to worry”. If I had not seeked further advise and had the support and guidance from The Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust I would unknowingly only have 18 months left to live.

This type of cancer unlike many others is regularly dismissed and very little is known about it, with this type of thyroid cancer it was extremely hard to trace, despite at the time having 2 tumours in my neck my blood tests returned ‘healthy and normal’. We all know to check our breasts and testicles but never our necks, if I had put down my excessive weight gain to lockdown and listened when told I was fine, my story would be completely different.

In a hope to raise awareness and help others, and should good health prevail I hope to be well enough to able to complete a 5km walk before my next surgery on the 19th of January 2021. This will be to raise money for the amazing Butterfly Thyroid Cancer trust. I can never truly thank them enough for the strength they have installed within me on the early steps of my journey and all the advice and support they are yet to provide, additionally I would not have got this far without the support and love from the amazing consultants, doctors and nurses at Leicester Royal Infirmary. For me this is still very early days and the battle is well ahead of me but if I can raise awareness of this to at least some of you it could save a life.

The truth is Covid-19 has disrupted cancer treatments for many months to come and fund raising has fallen and so right now future research is at risk.

Please give what you can to help raise money for this beautiful cause and join me in my journey to beat cancer!

Thank you will never be enough.

Love Always.
