Across Africa, the halting of tourism is threatening the livelihoods of rangers and the continent's iconic wildlife. Rangers are the first line of defence to protect endangered specialises and our aim is to support them at this critical time.

Story

Everyone across the globe is continuing to experience the impact of COVID-19.  In Africa, tourism is the main income generator for so many and with travel becoming impossible and trips being postponed to 2021  a lifeline to communities and the continent's iconic wildlife has essentially been turned off.

Rangers are the first line of defence to protect endangered species but in many places, there is no longer the funding for them. Without them, precious areas and their creatures will become more and more vulnerable to poaching and already endangered wildlife will be at even greater risk of extinction. More over the human impact will be just as devastating with these rangers salaries supporting so many of their wider families.

Yellow Zebra Safaris is proud to not only be joining the African Travel Industry in raising funds to support African Rangers and wildlife, but on the committee for #Ride4Rangers too.  The YZ team pledge to walk, run and cycle a total of 2,000 KM's between the 15th and 30th August and hopefully many more between now and the end of September.

All funds raised will go towards supporting the salaries and deployment of African Rangers during this crisis. Tusk is aiming to support 5,000 rangers over the next 6-9 months and has been established with generous match-funding, doubling the impact of every penny given.

Here's how you support could help!

  • £100 could purchase a GPS enabled camera to monitor wildlife
  • £200 could fund a Lion Guard Rangers salary for a month
  • £250 could provide materials needed to build a predator-proof livestock enclosure
  • £500 could sponsor a 4-man anti-poaching team in the field for a month.

Credit to Sera Conservancy & Saruni for the ranger image.
