Ironman 70.3 Vietnam · 8 May 2016

Saving babies from their first breath - advancing neonatal intensive care in Vietnam to help close the gap between developing and developed world standards of newborn care. Our work addresses the critical shortage of nurses, trained health workers and basic specialist lifesaving equipment.

Story

As a mother I am shocked that wordwide more than one million newborns die on their very first day of life, mosy of these deaths are preventable. What is more shocking is that survival is about where in the world your baby is born.

The first Ironman 70.3 in Vietnam took place in Da Nang last year and this year’s event will be on May 8th http://ironman703vietnam.com/VNG/ . The event supported the local Women & Children’s hospital special care baby unit and provide lifesaving incubators and breathing machines. From my visits to the baby unit I have seen for myself the benefits of the Newborns Vietnam http://www.newbornsvietnam.org/ medical education training for nurses and doctors provided by UK Hospitals and University. I am inspired by all the changes to the care of the smallest, sickest newborn babies that the doctors are making. With our support they can do so much more to prevent needless newborn deaths and bring the care Vietnamese parents receive closer to care parents in the UK take for granted when their baby is born. Trung, Son and me have formed Team Vietnam 2016 to compete as a relay team to raise funds for this meaningful charity.

Please support Team Vietnam 2016 and Newborns Vietnam by donating what you are able to, every contribution no matter how small or big helps
