Dyscover is a small charity local to me who provide long-term support and opportunities to people with aphasia and their families.

Aphasia is a communication disability that is caused by damage to the language processing centres of the brain, most commonly through stroke. It can affect the ability to speak, read, write and understand what’s being said and is a very frustrating and isolating condition. Aphasia can be mild or severe, depending on the type and extent of damage to the brain. It is one of the most enduring consequences of stroke and can be the most difficult to overcome.

For 27 years, Dyscover has been working to inform, support and empower people with aphasia, helping them to manage their communication disability and to re-engage with life.

They rely on fundraising income to provide their crucial support, including their innovative ‘Dyscover at Home’ online service which they developed during lockdown. This has enabled them to continue to support existing members during the pandemic but also reach out to even more people with aphasia who live further away.

Their fundraising efforts have been severely impacted over the last 12 months and so the money that I raise will really help them to continue supporting more people with aphasia. Thank you for your support.​
