Story
Huge thank you to everyone who generously donated and supported my race for kids 5k run last year for my 9th and my brothers 5th birthday. Together we raised £1,140.00 in less than a week for Great Ormond Street Hospital!!
It’s that time of the year again to give something back to others. I am hoping you can support me and my brother Sharvan once again. Our birthdays are a day apart and it was so rewarding to help worthy causes. Many are suffering through this pandemic. More than ever, we need to be looking out for each other.
This year we have chosen a charity called “The Little Things” founded in 2013 by Dr Rathaven Gunaratnarajah, at just 20 years of age to help improve healthcare in developing countries across the world. This charity relies entirely on donations and support of their volunteers and partners to complete each project. Over the years this charity has raised money for many significant projects improving inadequate healthcare in developing countries. 2015 - Supported Eye Clinic in Arusha, Tanzania. 2016 - Supported The Premature Baby Clinic in kilinochchi, Sri Lanka. 2017 - Supported Base Hospital Point Pedro and Base Hospital Tellippalai in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. 2018 - Supported The Tamokshi Co-operative Hospital, Nepal. Please see their website for further information, www.thelittlethings.org.uk.
The monies raised from our 5k run will be used to support “The Little Things” current project - The Development of the Children’s Unit at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in Northern Uganda. The charity aims to raise £80,000 to refurbish the existing wards, provide medical equipment and train staff that care for children and neonates.
Our 5k run will take place during half term in Norman Park, Bromley on the 14th of November 2020 at 10:00am. With your support we can get there.
REMEMBER, we have one of the BEST healthcare systems in the world which has been here for us for the last 70 years. But, this is not the same in many countries.
I will finish my story with a quote by Mother Teresa - “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”.
Thank you once again.
