The next fundraising event is a fun-night !!
"BURNS NIGHT SUPPER" Saturday 23rd January 2010 7.30pm - 12pm, Milnrow Cricket Club.
We have the most incredible bagpiper Mr Stuart Hay in full regalia (kilt & sporan) who will pipe in the Haggis and my hubby Andy Kerr will 'address' the Haggis ( in kilt & sporan!) in accordance with Scottish tradition.
The theme for the night is Scottish obviously so if you want to and feel comfortable dressing up feel free to come in Kilts, or tartan dresses, or even Ginger Jimmy wigs with tartan bonnets !
There will be DJ / Karoke entertainment and of course traditional Haggis Neeps & Tatties, or Cheese & Onion Pie with Mushy Peas for supper.
TICKETS £8.00 AVAILABLE NOW SO DON'T MISS OUT! IT WILL BE A GREAT NIGHT.
Thankyou for all your support

I am going to attempt to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro in March 2010 to raise funding for a charity called 'Help For Heroes'.
This is to help our service men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice both in conflict and peace keeping duties around the world, and in particular those that have suffered injuries in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.
The funds raised will go towards helping build specialist rehabilitation centres for our brave troops and help them to rebuild their lives. Some have such severe disabilities that ordinary hospitals cannot adequately treat them, they really do need specialist treatment and rehabilitation.
I have a personal connection in that my son and many of his friends from our home town in Rochdale have also served their country in these conflicts. They have friends who have not come home and friends who have been injured. These young men and women deserve to be treated with respect. Without them doing the job they do the world would be a much worse place.
This is my way of saying thankyou and applying myself to a significant challenge in order to raise funds for the wounded.
Thankyou for your support.
Yvonne
UPDATE 4TH AUGUST 2009
A big thankyou to everyone who has sponsored me so far, it really is appreciated. Just to let you know I have been training since June and so far I have climbed the Fairfield Horseshoe in Cumbria, 3 Peaks in North Yorkshire in one day, and will be climbing Snowdon hopefully on 15th Aug. My aim is to climb Ben Nevis before winter and will feel as though I have put some mileage in !
Meanwhile I'm organising fundraiser events with friends which include 2 big Entertainment evenings with artists and selling homemade produce at Rochdale Town Hall. These will be advertised by the end of this week.
THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT XX
Update 19/10/09
Hi Everyone,
I went to Snowdon on 15th August with my pal Roy, unfortunately we couldn't get to the summit due to dangerous weather conditions. I was so disappointed, but dealing with the elements and knowing my limits was a learning curve in itself. Since then I have struggled with getting out on walks due to family illness and have been quite exhausted. However, back to the gym tonight and walking in Trough of Bowland on Sunday 25/10/09. Snowdon is still calling me though!! A big thankyou to everyone who came to the fundraising night out on 3rd October and sponsored me. I've entered the non-gift aid money on the web today, but I have more to add when I send off a cheque for gift-aided sponsorship this week. I will keep you all posted on my progress. xx
25/10/09 PENDLE HILL
After much deliberation due to weather conditions again Roy and I decided to stay more local and walk up Pendle Hill (not the tourist route !) It was blowing a gale again and lashing down with freezing cold rain so it was a challenge none the less. At times I could hardly keep upright for the strength of the wind but it just goes to show how much respect you should have for the forces of nature. When we reached the top we had a magnificent view of the village of Barley just as the sun peeped out from behind a cloud, so it was worth getting drenched after all.
27/11/09
Busy with organising cake sale for the last couple of weeks but now that is complete and raised £270, I have met with Roy today to discuss our next walk. Because Xmas isn't far away we think it's best to wait until the New Year and perhaps go back to North Wales - hopefully we might get snow conditions which will be challenging. I'll let you all know soon.
Thankyou to everyone who has supported me - you all know this charity is dear to my heart - these servicemen and women are our heroes xxxx
13/12/09
A cheque for £905 is on it's way to Katie Cherrett Help for Heroes along with the sponsorship forms that friends and family have completed. I have logged the total on my website on the 'off-line' section. Help for Heroes will calculate the Gift Aid separately when they receive the cheque and forms. A big thankyou to everyone yet again for all your help for such a deserving cause.
19/01/10
Now that Xmas is over and I'm getting back into the swing of training again it's a weird feeling that in only 7 and a half week I'll be flying out to Kilimanjaro. Whilst I've tried to maintain the walking it's been difficult as mentioned above. I'm hoping that me and my pal Roy will get out for a walk in the next couple of weeks, and at least one more big one 3 weeks before I set off on my adventure. We're meeting on Thursday to make some plans - I think we'll be going back to Wales.
I've been begging, stealing and borrowing equipment from people to save on costs. Martin my son will be loaning me his sleeping bag that he used in Norway at - 34 degrees so I think I'll be able to keep warm at night on the mountain. Mike, Martin, Hayley, Olivia, Linden & Andy all bought me Xmas presents which I need for the trip - so again thankyou for your help. I love you all so much, and appreciate how much you have all supported me financially, emotionally and giving me positive vibes that I am capable of this challenge despite I feel like a knackered old donkey!
Meanwhile I have still got the Burns Night Supper to organise this Saturday 23/01/10. Everything is going well. Viv has baked the cheese and onion pies, Gilly is helping with the mash and veg, Yvonne & Denise are selling raffle tickets, Liam our local butcher has got me the Haggis, Gordon is delivering it, and many more friends have sold tickets for the 'do'. Just couldn't have done it without you all. Thankyou so much, love you all.

23/01/10 BURNS SUPPER NIGHT RAISED £920 !!!
Thankyou so much to everyone who came and raised this fantastic amount. It was a brilliant night and means so much to the people that you are supporting.
13/02/10 - Mount Tryfan, North Wales
Weather was cold but clear when Roy and I started off on our mission to climb this rocky mountain. About two thirds up the terrain was all rock, ice and snow. So about 2,000ft up it got a bit scarey because I'm not that tall and stretching every limb to hold onto the rock was just a bit of a struggle. On the top are two massive stones called Adam and Eve about 6ft apart which I believe the more barmy climbers jump between ....... not for me though ! This is my last tough walk / climb now until I go to Kilimanjaro so a big thankyou to Roy for all his help and keeping me safe. What a brill mate, trust him with my life literally.
Adios Amigos ...... next message when I get back.
PS: Another big thankyou to everyone who donated on the sponsorship forms. You will see on the 'Off Line' another £288.60. Help for Heroes process the cheque and calculate the Gift Aid separately. XX
23/05/10
A big thankyou to Paul Hill a local business man who has donated £100. He said if I reached the top he would donate this amount to H4H. I have sent the cheque direct to H4H and entered the amount on my offline status. Thanks again. X
