Thanks for visiting our page! I want to share Zoe’s story with you.
Zoe has dealt with mental illness and various diagnoses since she was very small, starting in pre-school. Her diagnoses include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. Her social anxiety has had the most impact to her living a “normal” life for as long as we can remember. In pre-school and elementary school, she never went to birthday parties, had to leave Disney World right after entering the park due to the noise and number of people, and doesn’t like to go to friend’s houses, instead wanting everyone to come to ours.
Through the years, things have gotten a bit better with medication and therapy, but she’s still far from a “normal” teen. For example, as a 17-year-old, she will rarely go to the bathroom in a store alone, won’t order food on her own from a counter, and holds mom’s arm when we are in a large/busy store. At school, she has to remove herself to the bathroom or counselor's office when an anxiety attack begins.
Zoe does great with trusted people she knows, but not as well alone, which is why having a service dog would make a world of difference.
Being around dogs seems to do amazing things for Zoe and her anxiety. We believe a service dog that was allowed to accompany her in public would broaden her horizons immensely. Service dogs are trained to identify panic attacks and help their owners deal with the anxiety, as well as being able to provide services to help steady people with POTS until they can safely sit down. Zoe wants to be able to do more things that every other teen does and be more self-sufficient. In other words, Zoe wants to feel “normal.”
It costs Little Angels a minimum of $38,000 to raise, train and place a service dog. This expense includes food, medical care, breeding costs, supplies (including crates, food dishes, toys, collars) as well as paying the licensed trainers at Little Angels. Little Angels Service Dogs relies on the generosity of donors like yourself to help raise the funds necessary to source a dog to be placed with Zoe. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Little Angels Service Dogs by following the secure link on this page, and include solicitation code PM-BA-ZO with your donation.
Little Angels trains dogs to assist their recipients with Mobility Tasks, Seizure & Diabetic Alert, Hearing Loss, Autism, PTSD, Panic Attacks as well as many other needs. Most of the dogs they place are puppies that have come from their own breeding program and are raised from birth with the specific goal of being an Assistance Dog. Others are lucky enough to be rescued from local shelters and rescue programs and end up changing the lives of others. Each dog's training is personalized to help their individual handlers needs.
