Thanks to everyone who has donated the level of support is incredible, I can't thank-you enough or explain how much it means - I will think of each of you when I get tired along the way as motivation to keep on going!

Strangely, I was excited and didn't flinch at the idea are running 26 miles / 42 kilometres... stupidly I didn't think of all the training needed to be able to do this. For the last 9 weeks, in the worst London winter I have ever experienced my short legs have run 200 miles / 322 kilometres, and they have yet to take me a few hundred more before the big day on April 25th.

But these hours of training in the cold, are nothing compared to the thousands of hours St John Volunteers give freely every year on the following activities:

- Ensuring public events such as the London Marathon are safe, with essential first aid support available

- Providing emergency support for all kinds of emergencies, from major emergencies to car accidents, weather incidents and fires.

- Training first aiders  to cope with first aid emergencies both at work and in the home.

- Attending emergency calls received by the ambulance service and provide care until the ambulance arrives

- Transferring patients to a wide range of non-emergency medical appointments such as admissions to and discharge from hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and other medical facilities.

I am sure that each and everyone of you, has throughout the course of your lives somehow been assisted by St John. As a registered charity St John Ambulance relies on donations to help fund their vital lifesaving first aid and community care projects.
