Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 20th December 2014 I am going to be shaving my head to a grade 2-3. I am intending to raise a much money as I can for St Wilfrid's Hospice.
In 2009 my Grandfather, Ronald Condick was taken to St Wilfrid's hospice after spending months in hospital with Prostate Cancer. After only about four days he passed away peacefully in his sleep. At the time I was only 11 years old and I had no idea what a hospice was, this meant that this was an extremely confusing time for me. However once he passed away, St Wilfrid's gave me all the support I needed including a book "Muddles, Puddles and Sunshine" which enabled me to understand what had happened as well as showing me the positives that were still in my life.
So, to thank St Wilfrid's for ensuring that my Grandfather was happy and well in his last few days as well as the support they offered my family, I would like to raise as much as I can for this incredible charity so they can continue to help and support other families in their time of need.
St Wilfrid's provides skilled and compassionate care and treatment for people living with a life limiting illness. It costs just over £11,000 to run the hospice daily, majourity of this is funded by donations. They currently care for more than 1000 people every year. St Wilfrid's aim to improve the lives of people whose illness is no longer curable by helping people to live as actively a possible after diagnosis to the end of their lives; however long that may be. They have a highly skilled team who not only provide treatment and care for physical symptoms but also are experienced in sensitively helping people address emotional, spiritual and social well-being. In addition they also support families and close friends, both during the illness and in bereavement.
The carer they offer is free of charge, regardless of the patients' circumstances. They support patients over the age of 18 with any illness that is beyond the point of cure and who has been referred to them by a doctor or nurse. The hospice offer 20 In-patient beds, Hospice at home and an In-patient unit.
