Story
I'm fundraising for Namaste Wings to Fly India, a small charity I recently volunteered with in southern India through the Epiphany Trust. It's a non profit organisation that houses over 100 children in the home and supports around 700 children in their offsite programs, as well as delivering food parcels to desperate families in poverty.
India is currently in lockdown to halt the spread of the coronavirus which is devastating for millions of families that fear hunger may kill them before the virus. Therefore the work that Namaste does, providing help with food, housing, school and medical supplies is even more important than it has ever been.
All children come from extreme poverty and have been through many traumatic experiences including rape, domestic violence and heartbreaking loss; coronavirus is just another struggle to add to the list. Spending 2 months with these children really highlighted to me the importance of finding a way for them to escape and forget what they have faced in the past enabling them to focus on the future. Thus I am raising money for the girls volleyball team as I believe doing sport gives them a release and something else to focus on. It helps prevent the deterioration of their mental health and aids academic study. Sport for girls has very little encouragement in India and this volleyball team is their only chance to exercise.
So every kilometer I run is for them!
Any money raised will go straight to Namaste Wings to Fly India
Thank you xx
