Story

Why I'm fundraising

During his lifetime my great great grandfather, William Mather of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, was heavily devoted to the rehabilitation of abused and orphaned women and children.

Compelled to continue his father's work after his death, his son Edward Ponnusamy Mather built the William Mather Memorial Women’s Centre in Maruthanamadam in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. The centre housed and rehabilitated women and girls who were victims of harrowing sexual assault and other crimes against women. Edward ensured the Women's Centre provided a safe haven for women and girls to receive critical support, protection and education in order for them to re-enter society with confidence.

My grandfather, Rev. Bramwell C.D Mather, was devoted to the running of this centre throughout his lifetime until his death in 1990.

The Women's Memorial Centre is still in operation today and has since helped many of the women and girls who were raped and sexually assaulted during Sri Lanka's recent civil war.

In memory of my grandfather Rev. Bramwell C.D. Mather’s charity work, I wish to continue to support victims of rape and sexual abuse worldwide. It is for this reason that I have chosen to run the Richmond Riverside 10K Run in order to raise money for Rape Crisis (England & Wales) and end the fight against sexual violence towards women and girls.

So please spare some money for this incredibly worthy cause and join me in supporting this great charity to help the very women and children it serves to protect.

I am truly grateful for your support.

Zoe
