Story
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
On March 29th I plan to complete a half marathon based in London in about two hours and a half (fingers crossed) Hopefully it’ll take less time than this!
I stumbled upon this marathon and it so happened there was a charity for Alzheimer’s participating. I’m not normally a believer of signs however the date seems to be fated, as I was supposed to be born on my granny's birthday (instead popped out a day earlier!), the day after this marathon will take place.
After witnessing the effects Alzheimer’s has on a person and their loved ones, I hope one day no one will have to endure such an awful disease. The more awareness and contribution to charity, the more research will progress, bringing that day ever so closer. Participating in this marathon is a small way I can contribute to advancing this cause. Anything that can be raised in the name of Alzheimer's research will play a part in reaching this goal.
After reading a book on the delay and prevention of Alzheimer’s, it detailed how there are certain steps a person can take to minimise the likelihood of getting the disease. The main take away point was exercise. This seems fitting as in my preparation and participating in this marathon will not only reduce the risk of me suffering from this disease but play a part in preventing this from untold numbers of potential future sufferers.
Thank you for your donations and support. Every contribution no matter the amount is important and greatly appreciated!
