About-A-Strand · 20 July 2015

The Mental Health Foundation believe no-one living in the UK should be deprived of the opportunity for good mental health because of who they are, the community they come from or where they live. We’re developing better ways to support good mental health in every community.

Story

About A Strand, is a documentary of images showcasing people who live and work on one of London's most famous streets, from the homeless to people running their own businesses or working in large organisations.

The diversity of all the people interviewed for the work was amazing, the amazing stories of peoples miss fortunes and tragedy was extremely hard hitting, they wanted their stories known so that the stigma of being homeless may be taken away. Also that people may realise how easy it is to find yourself living on the pavement during the cold winter months or sleeping in a box at night to keep out of the rain.

Non the less you can still work in a high paid job and suffer with mental health issues, mental health is an awful thing to cope with, and as a sufferer I could relate to everybody that was kind enough to talk to me. I hope the work can break the barriers of this and allow people to be a little more open minded about mental health

Other stories of events that have happened on the street during peoples working careers brings a smile to the work, it is one of London's most important streets with millions of visitors each year. The one story that always makes me smile is what happened on the Oliver Reid bench, but you will have to come to the exhibition to find out what happens.

Open evening is the 20th of July which is a private viewing, it then runs for 3 weeks and we hope to raise as much money for The Mental Health Foundation as possible.

Venue

The Crypt, St Martin-in-the-Field, Trafalgar Square
