Abseiling for Jacob · 15 October 2008
It is with great sadness that I have to write here that Jacob lost his fight for life on Friday 9th January 2009. Jacob had suffered bravely for 2 years from the horrid disease called Neuroblastoma.
Our team are still raising money for Jacob's appeal as any money will go to the 2Simple Trust to help other children with Neuroblastoma. Please don't stop donating. Don't let this happen to another child.
Thank you
Ali

Well we did it! On Sunday 9 November 2008 23 of us abseiled into Devil's Gorge in Wales on behalf of the Jacob Marsland Appeal. The weather wasn't kind to us but we were all in high spirits with Jacob at the forefront of our minds. It was tough, it was challenging, it was scary. BUT WE DID IT. We are all very proud of ourselves and hope that we can continue to get sponsorship money coming onto this site to reach our £10,000 target.
Involved in this challenge were:
Ali Beckman
Karen Rogers
Simon Beckman
Niki Addison
Kate Addison
Lucie Docking
Mike Docking
Lorraine Stringer
Alison Slade
Sam Sweeney
Susan Hands
Melanie Ridge
Matt Ridge
Nicola Bennett
Jo Stone
Alison Hill
Sharon Smith
Linzi Jackson
Chantelle Woodward
Kylie Nancollas
Steve Smith
Hannah Addison
Abby Warner and Monkey!!!
We would like to say that the event was accident free but as ever with a group of this size there is always going to be at least one incident to report on. Unfortunately the casualty was our own Niki Addison who unfortunately fell foul to the terror of the over-hang. A hospital visit later diagnosed a broken rib and she is now recovering at home (with plenty of chocolate!). Niki says her injury is a small price to pay for helping Jacob and quite rightly points out that her injury is definitely worth more sponsorship money now so get your donations on this site!
Abby Warner's husband Patrick has written a poem which we would like to share with you all:
Addison Addison climbed down a wall,
Addison Addison had a great fall
All the Kingsmeaders,
And all the Kings’ men
Couldn’t put Niki together again.
Addison Addison climbed down a cliff,
And nearly ended the day as a stiff,
She spent half the day
At the Welsh A & E.,
And didn’t get home until quarter to three.
The Doctors they wanted to test out her brain,
“She’s broke half her ribs and she seems quite insane”,
“She’s talking in gibb’rish
That doesn’t make sense”
We said “Yes ok but what’s the difference?”
Addison Addison climbed down a wall
To help one young lad who’s in need of us all,
It’s for a good cause
At the end of the day
To help Jacob M it’s a small price to pay
Please visit Jacob's website to find out more about this remarkable little boy - www.jacobmarslandappeal.org but if the following note from Jacob's dad does not pull at your heart strings then nothing will:

We received the terrible news yesterday that Jacob’s cancer has relapsed. We ares hocked and devastated as things are far worse than we could have imagined following the news we received last week. Jacob’s cancer has spread to his leg, pelvis, clavicle and has also relapsed in his original tumour bed which shows a large ‘mass’ developing behind his abdomen. Cancer is also suspected in his lymphatic system and seems to be evident in his bone marrow.
As if the above was not bad enough, we have also been told that there is no more ‘curative’ treatment available in the UK. Instead, we have been offered low dose chemotherapy to slow down Jacob’s deterioration and prolong his life.
We are in total shock at the moment, but are trying to figure out what our options are, including abroad. We are keeping a brave face for Jacob’s sake and are trying to maintain a sense of normality in what is an impossibly difficult situation.
I will post more when we know. Please pray hard for Jacob, for a miracle...for his life.
Anthony.
