Story

"The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving." ALBERT  EINSTEIN

As a group of Accenture employees, we have decided to give three days of our time to a fundraising blitz in aid of the Pro Cancer Research Fund. With a laboratory base at Imperial College London, PCRF supports highly inovative research using principles and techniques from neuroscience to study cancer in a totally unique way. As it is entirely volunteer-run, every penny raised by PCRF goes directly to the research effort.

Here's the science bit:

PCRF researchers  have discovered that when prostate and breast cancer cells spread from their original site – or metastasise – they become electrically excitable! To achieve this they produce sodium ion channel proteins.

This is an entirely new concept in our understanding of cancer - which could be exploited to predict early whether a given cancer of the prostate would metastasise and also offers the possibility of new treatment avenues.

Tetrodoxin is just one of the drugs which can be used to block these ion channels – and laboratory tests have shown that this suppresses the cancer cells’ ability to move and invade new tissues.

Please help!

We really believe in PCRF's work - and we're not the only ones! The group regularly publishes findings in peer-reviewed high-impact scientific journals - and has even hit the headlines with a piece in the Sunday Times.

Science is an expensive business, and the charity estimates that a full clinical evaluation of the research will cost £3,000,000 over 5 years. £300,000 has been raised to date - so PCRF needs your help.

Please dig deep and sponsor PCRF online.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Pro Cancer Research Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
