Story

4.7.10 - WE MADE IT!

Well, it's been a month since we completed our trip to Ireland and now the dust has settled and we've had time to recover and reflect we'd just like to send you this little note.

Fundraising - The count over here currently stands at a fantastic £1,076.70 for Cancer Research UK, which is great. Also news from across the water indicates that fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society has exceeded €1,200!
These funds combined are far in excess of our initial target of £750 pounds, and we thank all of you who have donated.

Special thanks go to SIS Heating & Plumbing of Dartford, Flow 3 Drains of Gravesend and PrintBig of Sutton Valence who kindly supported and sponsored us on our trip.

Finally, a massive thanks to all our family and friends who were always supportive throughout the whole event, from the initial idea over a year ago, through the months of training, inevitable injuries, the resulting ups and downs and everything else that went with it!

Best wishes and have a happy summer!

Chris & Matt

What are we doing?

Matt and I are planning to cycle nearly 440 miles from Langley, Kent (England), through Wales crossing the Irish Sea (via ferry, of course) and finishing at my parent's village near Kilbarron, County Tipperary, Ireland. Yes, it's a long way to Tipperary...
Carrying only necessary provisions, staying in B&B's, Hostels, friends houses along the way and without a chase car, it's sure to be a challenging experience.
We hope to complete the trip in 6 days.

Below is a breakdown of the journey (See the route map in the photo section):

Day 1 (Start) – Sunday 30th May – Langley to Reading

Day 2 – Monday 31st May (Bank Holiday) – Reading to Bristol

Day 3 – Tuesday 1st June – Bristol to Port Talbot

Day 4 – Wednesday 2nd June – Port Talbot to Fishguard

-          Ferry from Fishguard to Rosslare

Day 5 – Thursday 3rd June – Rosslare to Kilkenny

Day 6 – Friday 4th June – Kilkenny to Kilbarron

Total mileage – approx 440 miles

Why are we doing it?

At some point in everyone's life, Cancer will rear it's ugly head. It will affect you, your family or your friends, maybe even your pet. Joking aside, we have both lost friends and family from it and some of you may know that in 2007 I had my own small battle with the 'big-C'. Thankfully, I'm still around to tell the tale.
No doubt one of the reasons I am still here today is due to the tremendous work that Cancer Research UK have done over the years. So please donate what you can to this cause, and think of us, and our numb arses when we arrive in Ireland on the 4th of June!

How else can you help?

If anyone knows of anywhere to stay (B&B, Friends etc) in the Bristol or Port Talbot areas, please let us know!

Chris & Matt
