Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

ON THE 26TH SEPTEMBER 2015 I WILL BE STARTING THE DAY OFF ON THE WEST COAST OF ENGLAND IN THE SMALL VILLAGE OF SEASCALE AND ENDING UP IN THE GOTHIC SEASIDE TOWN OF WHITBY ON THE EAST COAST.

This year I will be ‘celebrating’ my 7th year as a diabetic, and what better way (I thought) to tip my hat to another year than to run, swim and cycle across the country!

The day starts with an 9 mile, relatively flat tarmac run from the coast of Cumbria into the Lake District and to the shores of Wast Water, the Lake Districts deepest and most mystical lake.
From there I shall don my very fetching wetsuit (!) and swim the entire length of the lake finishing 3.0 miles later at the northern waters edge where I will hopefully be greeted by my awesome support crew (I’m still recruiting!).
I will then pop on my trainers once again and run myself up the valley, past the very tempting Wasdale Head Inn and on to the top of England’s highest peak - Scafell Pike (978m).  From there I thankfully have a descent into the valley below down to Great Langdale where I will finish the 14 mile fell run.
After a quick refuel I will grab my bike and start the 135 mile bike ride through the remaining Eastern Lakes, the picturesque Yorkshire Dales and beautiful and rolling North Yorkshire Moors National Park before ending the day on the cliffs of Whitby, 161 miles later.

Oh how easy it rolls off the tongue…
