I'm not a runner. I have never really run. But in October I will run this relatively short distance and will suffer greatly in the process. There will be sweat, tears, and likely - but hopefully not - some blood. If you're in or around Oxford, come watch. I have no doubt it will be very funny to see. 

I thought I'd use the opportunity to raise some money for GiveDirectly, a charity I believe in and care deeply about. GiveDirectly provide unconditional cash transfers to people living in extreme poverty around the world. It is a highly evidence-based method of helping those that need it most. Over 85% of the funds donated to GiveDirectly are given straight to the people that need it, with much of the rest going towards setting up the recipients' phones and bank accounts, and research so that GD can be even better at helping people in the future.
