Story
Hey everyone,
First of all thank-you for taking the time to get this far
On the 9th June 2019 I will be taking on the challenge of the Ironman 70.3 in Staffordshire, consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike and finishing with a 13.1 mile run.
I am doing this to raise money for two charities that are very important to me.
The first is "Alice Charity" back in my birthplace of Stoke-on-Trent.
25% of all children in Stoke-on-Trent live in low income families and it is widely acknowledged that a childhood spent in poverty adversely impacts education, occupation, income and health.
The Alice Charity has four schemes which help people in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. This ranges from helping struggling new mothers, young people under stress and helping children whos parents cannot provide appropriate living standards.
They also run an emergency food bank for families in need, providing food that is not currently available from government food banks, such as baby food.
The second is the Clock Tower Sanctuary, Brighton. When I walk around my town, it is impossible to ignore the amount of people living on the streets. Brighton and Hove now has the second largest homeless population in the UK.
A high percentage of homeless people have been diagnosed with a mental health condition as a result of the physical and mental strain experienced from sleeping outside which offers no safety or stability. This can be particularly traumatic if you are young and alone.
The Clock Tower Sanctuary provides homeless young people from ages 16-25 a safe and welcoming space, where they can get the help they need.
Supported by a team of friendly volunteers from the local community, young people can access a range of facilities to help cope with the practical problems of homelessness. These include a fully stocked kitchen, shower and laundry services and visits from health and housing specialists. These are the simple things that a lot of us take for granted.
In this time of austerity, where poverty levels are drastically rising, these two charities need help more than ever and any help from you can make a vital difference.
I would be massively thankful if you could please support me in this challenge and more importantly help these two charities to continue their amazing work, helping some of the most vunerable in our communities.
Thank-you,
Adam
