Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please sponsor me online.
Wheel & Walk is a national MS Society fundraising event. This year it is taking place in Manchester alongside the MS Life 2008 convention.
Usually I zoom around on my electric scooter! But for the 6k ‘Wheel & Walk’ I will be going at a more ‘sedate’ pace in my wheelchair. My ‘pushers’ for this event are my son, Mark Staniford, who has promised that this time he will avoid all the potholes! and my friend Teresa Dixon, who is a Local Support Development Officer for the MS Society ( gives a whole new meaning to getting the push from the Boss!)
£20 will fund an hour of research into finding a cure for MS.
£25 will pay for an hour of an MS Nurse's time.
£50 will pay for 50 packs to send out to people newly diagnosed
with MS.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: MS Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.

30/03/08 Hurray! We did it!
The sun does shine in Manchester and despite the kerbs, cobbles and near catastrophes, we completed the 6k ‘Wheel & Walk’.
We started off at a brisk pace, we wanted to overtake MS Trustee Stuart Coates in his jazzy electric chair, and thanks to the efforts of a photographer who insisted on lying in the road to get some ‘atmospheric’ shots, we passed Stuart and took the lead… for about three minutes.
There was a definite lack of crowds lining the streets to cheer us on. I think Manchester forgot to put their clocks forward, or maybe they had all been up late celebrating Man. United’s win?
Mark and Teresa looked a bit worn out as we approached the finish line. I’m sure it had nothing to do with who they were pushing! But, we all cheered up when we received our medals as we crossed the finish line.
THANK YOU - THANK YOU – THANK YOU…
…For all your support and sponsorship. Please look at the Youtube video to see us cross the line.
28/03/08 Today I leave for Manchester. I’ve packed my waterproofs and I’m ready for the big push! I’m sure the sun does shine in Manchester, but whenever I’ve been there it’s rained! Still, even if I get waterlogged it will be worth the effort. I’m truly overwhelmed with how generous everyone has been, and there’s more to come. I know the lovely Carol is still collecting sponsorship, on my behalf, from DAT members. Thanks Carol.
I will, of course, be taking a bucket with me, just in case anyone watching the ‘Wheel & Walk’ would like to throw in a small donation!
I know, much wants more but, who knows which donation is the one that will help fund the research that eventually finds a cure for MS?
20/03/08 “Happy Easter”.
This year, as I’m in training, I will try and limit my consumption of chocolate Easter eggs, hot cross buns and simnel cake! Oooops! I made a mistake. Everton are playing on the 30th. It’s a derby match with Liverpool! But, Mark is still going to push me around the course, at breakneck speed so he can get back in time for the match. We could set a new record for wheel & Walk
15/03/08 WOW! What fantastic support!
Now I’m starting to think that maybe we could reach £1,000? With the donations so far, and gift aid, the total is already over £750 so a final ‘push’ (pardon the pun!) could take us to the new target.
I’ve heard a little whisper that there may be a few people turning up on the day, with cameras, to memorialise my son actually pushing me for 6k! I’ve get every confidence that he’ll rise to the challenge, especially as Everton aren’t playing on that day and he’ll have some help from Teresa!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all, for your brilliant support and generosity.
09/03/08 This is a red letter day! My favourite (and only) daughter-in-law’s donation has broken our target of £500. Thanks Bernie xx
A BIG and sincere “thank you” to everyone who has taken the time and the trouble to log on and donate and make this Super Sunday. You are all super stars!
I didn’t think we would reach the target but, now that we have, please don’t stop donating. Every penny raised will make a difference to the life of someone who is affected by MS.
I04/03/08 Gosh, what a generous lot you are! It really inspires me when I see the pounds mounting up. Thanks everybody.
On to a more serious, and puzzling, problem. I think my wheelchair has shrunk! Either that or maybe I’m a little more voluptuous around the nether regions! I’m now breaking in a new pair of gloves, essential for when I use my hands as brakes, just in case my son accidentally (!) lets go of me at the top of a hill!
27/02/08 Thanks for your donations. It really makes a big difference, especially as I’m now in training (!) for the big event. It’s not easy sitting about all day, but hey, someone’s got to do it :>))
