Running to help provide emergency food and support for those who need it

Weʼre raising £500 to help provide emergency food and support for those who need it · 11 April 2021
Hi!
We are Niamh Thompson and Albane Fery, two sixth form students living in London.
On the 12th of April, we will be running a half marathon to help raise money for the Wimbledon Food Bank.
Donations, however big or small, could help us make a difference and make sure that families turning up to the foodbank with their coupons are able to find what they need to cook dinner tonight.
In the UK, more than 14 million people live in poverty – including 4.5 million children. The recent pandemic has had an enormous impact on people's incomes and therefore economic stability, and this is expected to lead to rises in poverty and food insecurity. The Trussell Trust has forecast there to be a 61% increase in food bank usage next winter compared to the last one. On top of this, food banks are struggling to cope due to a fall in donations, insufficient supplies from supermarkets and a lack of volunteers. Many food banks have recently been forced to close or are considering closing due to a shortage of food and people to run them.
With the money we raise from this fundraiser, we will be able to buy many goods and essentials that the food bank can use to replenish their emptying shelves. Donations towards this cause can make a huge difference to those struggling, and your help is most needed now, especially during these times of struggle and uncertainty.
Thank you again for any donations you make, however big or small. We are extremely grateful, and so will be all the families you help provide for.
