Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

Aiden was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 3 weeks old.  Ever since he has been on various medication in order to manage his condition.  Aiden has contracted many bugs some of which have required a nebuliser and hospitalisation for intravenous drugs.  He is now 5 and a half months old and doing well although he currently has two more bugs and is on another medcine. We are all keen to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to help further their research of treatment via gene therapy.

That is why Shaun (Aidens Daddy), Brian ( Aidens Grandad),Craig (Aidens Uncle) and Jim (Grandad's Friend) have decided to abseil 100ft down Celtic Park (Parkhead,Glasgow) on April 3 2010 in order to raise as much money as possible for a very good cause close to our hearts.

The Charity abseil, in partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, gives the chance for supporters and fundraisers alike to experience the ultimate adrenaline rush. Participants have the opportunity to descend 100 feet down the Main Stand of the stadium, all in the name of charity.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-threatening inherited condition affecting over 8,500 families in the UK alone. It claims the life of three young people each week. The disease, which affects the internal organs - mainly the lungs and the digestive system - has, to date, no cure.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust offers advice and practical support to individuals and their families living with the condition, through areas such as physiotherapy, medication, exercise and nutrition

Fifty per cent of the Charity Abseil proceeds will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, enabling them to continue their research into the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis using Gene Therapy. The remaining 50% will be distributed to a host of other worthwhile causes through the Celtic Charity Fund Donations Scheme.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust continues to provide worthwhile support to those living with the condition and to their families. The Charity Abseil at Celtic Park is the first if its kind at the stadium and will hopefully be an event that will raise a significant amount of funds.

June Ross, Regional Fundraising Manager at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust said: “The impact of Cystic Fibrosis on family life can be challenging to say the least. Coming to terms with living with the condition can prove very difficult at times.

"This is why, as a charity, we continue to offer emotional support as well as funding ongoing research in to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis.

"I am delighted that Celtic Charity Fund and the Cystic Fibrosis are working and fundraising together. The Charity Abseil at Celtic Park will be a most challenging and fun event.”
