It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer early in October this year (2013). Like the majority of those diagnosed, he received this news at a point where his disease was terminal.

Dad is currently at home receiving palliative care - that is, care to keep him comfortable while he is with us.

During what has been a shocking and sad time I have received fantastic support from Pancreatic Cancer UK - both from its' discussion forums and from the dedicated team of support nurses who have been there with advice on care and treatment for dad when often we have felt very frightened and unsure.

We cannot give dad his years of retirement to enjoy, or mum her husband to enjoy those years with. We also cannot give my 4 children - dad's grandsons and daughters - time with their grandad.

What we can do, though, is support this wonderful charity in their work researching and campaigning for a breakthrough in diagnosing and treating this disease. We can help them in supporting those who are ill, their families and carers as they have supported us.

When dad left hospital at the point of diagnosis, dad said he'd have liked to go back onto the ward to 'offer something back' to the community of cancer care. As it turned out, dad has never been well enough since.

I'd like to think that in donating here we can help dad to do that in some way.

Please support me in my bid to complete to 2014 London Marathon.

Thank you.
