Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page, which we are using as part of our overall fundraising efforts. As you will no doubt have seen already, A Kick Up The R's is raising funds for Samaritans over the course of the 2009/10 season.

As the values of our beloved club - built on its history, culture and tradition - grow ever distant from we long-standing and long-suffering QPR supporters, our fundraising initiative is intended to demonstrate those values might have been lost elsewhere at the club, but they are alive and flourishing and still hugely important to the QPR fan-base.

Our club might well now boast the finest dining at any Championship club and the appointment of a Global Ambassador, but it is the ordinary QPR fans who stand and cheer and applaud the kids on the pitch at half-time, and give them a reception they'll never forget. It's the ordinary QPR fans who spontaneously chant in memory of Ray Jones. It's the ordinary QPR fans who attached bouquets of flowers to the fences at Coventry post-Hillsborough, who applauded Bryan Gunn when the Norwich keeper shaved his head in support of his own daughter's fight against cancer, who contributed to the LSA's efforts in training and donating so many, many guide dogs over the years, and who are never slow to put money into a bucket, whether it's to support the local Irish Dancing Group or the Hoops Fund to keep their own club going.

If it wasn't for Samaritans, there is every chance there would be no AKUTR's now. This is our chance to say a practical thank you for that - and for our readers and all QPR fans to contribute to that. Samaritans provide a confidential emotional support service 24/7 for people who are experiencing feelings of despair and distress, including those which may lead to suicide. The cost of running Samaritans is huge - over £36,000 a day for the entire UK network. Our own aim is to raise £5,000 through a programme of events. You can read more at our website - http://www.akutrs.co.uk/

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Samaritans and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thanks for reading this.
