Indian Classical Dance · 30 June 2013

The Countess Charity works with the local community to raise money for over 80 funds across the hospital - each one making a real difference to patient care!

Story

We have been learning Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance for over 3 years. I am doing my debut performance (Arangetram) at the Lowry on the 30th of June. My sister Ananya will be joining me as well. Our dance performance overcomes popular stereotypes and introduces the audience to a 3000 year old dance style. We would like to put our training and hard work to a good cause by fundraising for the Babygrow appeal.

One in eight babies born in the UK will spend sometime in a neonatal unit. Last year the neonatal unit in the Countess of Chester Hospital cared for 450 babies, many of whom were very poorly, either in the intensive care or on ventilators. Some babies stay in the unit for a few hours, for others it can be weeks or even months. Understandably this can be a very anxious time for parents who often spend a lot of time in the unit and currently the restricted size of the unit means they can't always be provided with the space and privacy they would like or a play area for siblings or a dedicated counselling room when bad news has to be given.

The Babygrow appeal will provide all this and much more, in a brand new purpose built neonatal unit.
