Story
What am I doing?
On Sunday 26th April (10am) I will be running for 2 Hours 36 Minutes. Simply running lengths of the garden. The paved area is only 8 meters long, so there will be lots of back and forth!
If you're kind enough to donate please add in a guess of how many lengths you think the total will be (Estimating 1000+ lengths). If you're the closest guess when the challenge is complete i'll multiply your donation by 2.6 and donate myself.
Who am I doing this for?
CGD Society - https://cgdsociety.org/
Why CGD Society?
I was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disorder at birth, an extremely rare condition which effects around 8 people in every million.
The CGD society is the main source of advice, support and guidance for people with CGD and their families.
The advice I've received from the CGD Society over the years has been second to none, they have been a go to contact for many different reasons.
CGD Society most recently had advised to stay at home regarding the COVID-19 situation before I had received the NHS letter to say so (3 weeks earlier)!
The CGD Society have a very small team and run off charitable donations and donations have been severely impacted during this pandemic.
What is Chronic Granulomatous Disorder?
CGD is a disorder that prevents the immune system fighting off certain infections. People with CGD carry a faulty immune system gene, which means that white blood cells, called phagocytes, don't work properly. As a result, CGD-affected people tend to get frequent bacterial and fungal infections, and need to take daily medication to stay healthy. However, many of the health complications seen in people with CGD are due to chronic inflammation rather than infection.
Problems can arise and lead to serious illnesses and prolonged periods in hospital.
What is the 2.6 Challenge?
General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. This impacts all sectors of society from children to the elderly as well as the vital work in areas such as palliative care, serious diseases, mental health, housing support, food supplies and countless others that charities support.
