Make-A-Wish UK is part of a global movement that exists to make life-changing wishes come true for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK. The power of a wish allows families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Story

From a flood of pink tutus and T-shirts at the 10K to the wet and rainy Bristol Half, up and down the hills of an outrageously difficult Welsh Marathon... we've finally made it. We've actually been awarded places in 2012 London Marathon. There has been blood (Gaby's horrid blister that formed during the Wales Marathon), sweat (Richard won't even come near me after a Sunday training session), and tears (Gabs actually cried at the sight of uphill cobblestone during the half, and then again within the first three minutes of the marathon) along the way. But it all seems worthwhile since being lucky enough to have gained entry into the upcoming London Marathon through Make-a-Wish.

As a charity, Make-a-Wish has become almost a household name both in the UK and the US. It is a foundation that quite literally makes children's dreams come true. From pop stars leaving live concerts to spend an evening at a child's hospital bedside, to a little girl becoming a princess for the day at Disneyland, Make-a-Wish has a story that could melt even the coldest of hearts. But beyond the fairytales and the sparkle of celebrity donations, there is an honesty to this organization that is incomparable. By this I mean that the children are what drive this charity, and children's wishes are pure and simple: they want a little happiness. A young girl has leukemia and all she wants is to have her very own treehouse. A boy with a rare neurological disorder simply wants to see Shrek the musical.

Some of these children, as young as four, only have weeks to live. Humble and deserving, each and every one of these wishes should be granted. Because although they deserve the world, they aren't even asking for it.

In running this marathon for Make-a-Wish, we hope that we can contribute to multiple wishes becoming realities. Through sponsoring us, you'll be making wishes come true. I'm a firm believer in Disney as a remedy for many-a-pain. Help us take some of their pain away.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We truly appreciate your support. No promises that Gaby won't cry again. But we can promise that every penny we earn through your generous donations will make someone's life left on this earth just that bit better.

xx Alicia & Gaby
