Story
Grace is 9 years old and when she was 7, she watched me run the Race for Life in Southport for my beautiful friend Jeanette McLaren who died at the young age of 50 from cancer. Grace ran the last few hundred yards with me that year and when we ran over the line together, she told me she wanted to run the race next year and raise money for Jeanette and Grandmas friend Mary Walsh, as she had also been taken from us too early. I have since also lost another dear friend from my school days at Streatham House - Donna Williams-Osbourne - aged only 43. Grace knew her too of course as Donna worked at Grace & Harrys school, St Lukes.
Grace carried out what she promised she would do and she ran with me last year at the Southport Race for Life, with me beside her every step of the way.
This will be the second year in a row that Grace has run this race and attempted to raise money for our special friends. Last year, my little darling burst into tears the minute she stepped foot over the line - she ran on a boiling hot day and in a record time under 38 minutes!! Proud Mum alert!!
So....the training! Its not going to plan at all just yet. I dont think that Grace will ever be a Paula Ratcliffe!!
Grace took part in a 2k last year at Southport and she ran "The Crazy Pups" race this year - both of these alongside her exceptionally patient brother. Patience is wearing thin though I must say!! The Crazy Pups weather was horrendous but Grace was determined to take part and did fantastically well!!
I'm very proud of Grace, particularly as this was something she wanted to do and decided to do herself. Her big brother couldn't be more proud and trains with us to help Grace reach her goal.
I thank you on behalf of Gracie for taking the time to sponsor her - it means a great deal and will inspire her as she runs around Southport Victoria Park on Sunday the 8th June 2014, holding her Mummys hand tightly, wearing a message on her back that she is doing the race in loving memory of three very special people:
Jeanette
Mary
Donna
Thank you xxxx
