WELCOME TO MY FUNDRAISING PAGE FOR THE
"KIRA FARM TRAINING SCHOOL" IN UGANDA
In September 2004 I am undertaking a challenging 10,000 kilometre, six week journey through Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia in a 4WD land rover, to raise funds for the KIRA FARM TRAINING PROJECT.
MY ULTIMATE AIM IS TO RAISE: £10,000 for 10,000 kilometres
STOP PRESS: 17th August: Initial target reached. £3,780 NOW PLEDGED!
My next Goal is $10,000 US dollars..........then £10,000 pounds.
During a visit earlier this year to the Makindye Pearl Orphanage in Uganda, I met Joseph and Rose Imo, who have dedicated their lives to helping street children in Kampala.
The orphanage is funded by AMIGOS INTERNATIONAL, the registered UK charity that provides most of the money needed each month for these vulnerable children at Makindye Pearls. See www.amigosonline.org.uk
As well as raising money to start the Barnstable Integrated High School for the 12-16 year olds, AMIGOS have recently bought 10 acres of land in the north of Kampala. Here they are starting the self-sustainable KIRA FARM TRAINING CENTRE, teaching older teenagers from all parts of the country the skills needed to run a small farming business and enable them to support their families for the rest of their lives.
It is for this farm project that I am raising much needed funds for. PLEASE NOTE: I AM PAYING ALL MY OWN EXPENSES FOR THIS EXPEDITION MYSELF. Every penny I raise will go directly to this project, and be used roughly as follows:
My initial target of £3,000 - (now overtaken) - which matches the projected budget for my expedition - is going towards building two residential dormitory blocks with toilets, washroom, a kitchen and an office.
Next £1,000 will be enough to dig a well, and buy the pump and all necessary pipe-work for running water.
Then £1,000 will go towards a classroom, chicken houses and animal shelters.
£1,000 will pay to dig out and stock some fish ponds (bricks for the buildings will be made from mud dug from these ponds)
£1,000 is be needed for chicks, goats, pigs, etc and also vegetable seeds and fruit trees.
A final £3,000 can fund a much-needed 4x4 pick-up truck.
These projects are why I am asking for your help to achieve my target of £10,000
I would really appreciate your emailing me: amigos@annmccarthy.co.uk or giving me a call on 01932 562757 and asking for an information/sponsor sheet that you can take around to your friends and work-colleagues.
You can send a cheque to PO Box 111, Shepperton, TW17 0UG made payable to Amigos International, or dig deeper and use your credit card to sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Amigos International will receive your money quickly and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, and many thanks for your support.

PS If you would consider personally sponsoring one of the young children at the orphanage for just £8 per month, you will have the satisfaction of being able to keep in contact with him/her, and also free up almost £100 over the year that will then be moved across to the Farm Project.
Email me if you would like to know how to set this up - I now personally sponsor both a boy and a girl and am looking forward to meeting them when I arrive in Kampala.
