Story
I’m raising money for equipment that is
needed for the patients at the Derby Royal Kidney peritoneal dialysis
department. Registered number 21096.
This charity is close to my heart, most of you are aware that Melvyn (my partner) was only born with one kidney, which he did not know until he was in his 20’s after a medical review. He was monitored by the kidney department team in Burton on Trent hospital but then he was discharged and maintained his health well.
A few years ago he was placed on a medical trial for his gout and as part of that treatment; he was monitored closely with blood tests, they found that his kidney function was deteriorating.
He was referred to the Derby Royal Hospital kidney renal clinic, where he was told that he is in kidney failure, which came as a shock to us all.
Melvyn had to decide which treatment pathway he was going to do and after long consideration he decided on the peritoneal Dialysis treatment, which means that he can do this treatment at home.
He then went into hospital for an operation to have the peritoneal tube placed to be able to do his dialysis treatment. The PD nurse/department has helped and supported us in this journey and continues to do so. He now does his treatment at home 4 times a day, which does restrict what he is able to do, however they have provided him with all the equipment that he needs to be able to go back to work, and maintain his
independence to be able to live a normal life as much as possible.
Therefore I’m raising funds for the Peritoneal Dialysis patients so that they are able to have the equipment/supplies that Melvyn has had, such as mobile drip stands, bag warmers, and digital scales to allow others the ability to be have their independence and have a normal life.
I will be doing a Tandem Sky Dive on Sunday April 9th 2017 and hope that you will support me.
