Rainbows John O'Groats to Lands End Cycle · 16 January 2009

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

UPDATE: We completed the ride on 3/6/09, reaching Land's End after 11 days of cycling, 949 miles and 44,700 feet of ascent.  It was tough with a lot of cycling into the wind and some hot weather, but we made it!  Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sponsored us so far; it was the thought of the money we're raising for Rainbows that kept us going.  Please spread the word as we have some way to go to reach our target!

You can read more about the story of the ride on the blog at www.steffihey.co.uk .

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page!

Charles Barnascone and Andy Hey are going to cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End (cycling experts will recognise this as the downhill route) to raise as much money as possible for Rainbows Children's Hospice in Loughborough.  Rainbows is a wonderful place that enriches the lives of children with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

The ride will start on 23rd May and, medical science, weather, gravity and numerous other factors permitting, we will arrive in Lands End about 12 days later.

It will be a real challenge for us - nearly 1,000 miles, over 80 miles a day.  Andy has done the ride before, but it was 25 years and several stone ago so can't be viewed as a guide to recent form.  Still, we are confident that the excellent cause we are raising money for will inspire us to reach the finishing post.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Rainbows get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
