We Raise funds to help respond to Humanitarian disasters

Story

You are cordially invited to a Party at Take5 Cellar Bar, Norwich, April 17th 2010, music starts at 8 finishes at 1.

You should wear one colour of your choice, plus optional black. Bright and unusual colours are encouraged.

Sponsor yourself to come to the party.

This party won't have tickets (because tickets would make donations ineligible for gift-aid), but I suggest that you sponsor yourself to attend the party through me for £5 (minimum, if you want to give more don't let me stop you). If more than one of you is coming along can you please make individual donations, otherwise I'll get confused. If the party was going to have tickets it would have 50 because that's the capacity, but there is overspill upstairs.

Music will have a colour in the name of the song or artist. If you would like to bid for a CD DJ slot (probably around 20-40 minutes) express an interest in your comments when donating, submit a track list to me by April 1st, I will moderate to ensure we don't get too many playings of yellow submarine or simply red (once being too often in the latter case), and then you'll need to get a burned CD to me by Monday April 12th.

Dancing shoes recomended.

MapAction is an interesting looking charity, using mapping techniques in times of disaster to provide information to aid organisations allow them to target their efforts. They've been active in Haiti recently and thats what prompted me to support them.

When you donate tick the option for 'I’m not getting a ticket, product or service in return for my donation', because you aren't, you can come anyway, and this allows gift-aid to be added to your donation.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

MapAction believes that applying geospatial expertise to humanitarian situations can greatly improve outcomes for the people affected. Global humanitarian needs outstrip resources. Expert geospatial and data analysis can help stretch those resources for maximum impact. Many professionals want to donate their energy and skills to help. MapAction is the bridge which enables them to do so effectively. We are a non-profit organisation that collaborates with partners around the world to help anticipate, prepare for and respond to humanitarian emergencies. We strive to ensure governments, regional and local disaster management agencies and humanitarian responders have access to the information and analysis that they need to make key decisions, at the right times, to save lives and alleviate suffering. We are a team of around 100 people, 75% of them expert volunteers, plus a small roster of standby consultants. Combining the passion of volunteerism with the rigour and reliability of professional standards, the ‘MapAction spirit’ is something we work hard to maintain and the willingness of our team to go the extra mile is often fed back to us.
