Story
My Mami - Sian Elin Daniels to everyone else - always suspected that I would sign up to the London Marathon, and running it someday was on my bucket list. I'd always thought that when I eventually took on the challenge that she would be there, beaming and cheering me on through it all, as she always did. I never imagined that my first ever London Marathon would be in memory of her.
We lost Mami very suddenly on 17th August 2021 to Lung Cancer. None of us saw it coming. She was everything a Mum should be and more - she was our superwoman! Full of life and always on the go. Our biggest supporter. Beautiful, kind, fierce and strong. I am so proud to be her daughter, and I am taking on this challenge for her.
I have never met the nurses who were assigned to Mami, but I am so grateful for them. Pat, Liz and Maggie were a constant support for my Mum through the most difficult and painful time of her life, and Pat attended hospital appointments when Covid-19 guidelines meant that we couldn't be there with her. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and they would always be there to help or even just to listen. Although Mami's time with them was brief, I know how much they helped her - but their support didn't stop when Mami passed.
The nurses kept in contact with us after Mami's passing, and Maggie supported my Dad with the mountain of forms and paperwork. Maggie went above and beyond, and would call us just to ask how we are. Even now, a few months down the line, I know that their support is there should we need it, and just a phonecall away.
Macmillan says that they give people with cancer and their families everything they've got, and they really mean it. They were there for Mami and for us at our darkest moments, and still continue to support us. We will be forever thankful that the Macmillan charity and its nurses exist.
I know that Mami will be with me every step of the way, and knowing that I can make a difference and give something back to a charity so close to my heart will get me through all 26.2 miles!
I am hoping to thank Macmillan and to support their amazing work by reaching my fundraising target by October 2022.
Without the kindness of donations, they cannot support everyone who needs them. Thank you for supporting my fundraising.
