Chara Challenge · 6 April 2009
3 Commando Brigade will be returning from Afghanistan in April 2009 after a six month tour of duty in Helmand Province.
During our tour there have been many notable successes but progress has come at a significant cost.
35 of our comrades have been killed in action, 149 have been wounded in action (of which 48 are 'life-changing injuries') and 334 have suffered non-battle related injuries. There will inevitably be further casualties before we come home.
The purpose of the Chara Challenge is to raise money for the dependants of our comrades who will not be coming home and for the care of those who are suffering from the injuries they have sustained serving their country.
Please browse the website for more information on the Chara Challenge.
The event is a 30 mile race across Dartmoor on 2 July 2009, for both military and civilian teams who want to test themselves on one of the Commando tests. The race is conducted in boots carrying a 45 pound daysack. 42 Commando Recce Troop will enter 2 x 4-man Teams for the race.
During the Royal Marines Commando Course it is run as the finale to a 3 week arduous exercise, followed by a timed pass or fail test week comprising the Endurance Course, 9 Mile Speed March, Tarzan Assault Course and '30 Miler'.
