Sponsored walk/ride across the South Downs · 12 September 2010
Maddie and Ilona are going on an egyptian animal quest to ACE (animal care in Egypt) in September. ACE is a charity in Luxor that provides free emergency care for working horses and donkeys, as well as dogs, cats and farm animals. The working animals are invaluable for the livelihood of their owners, and so treatment, prevention and education the centre provides really does make a difference.
Maddie is visiting for a month, and will be putting her wealth of animal experience and near Monty Roberts-like equine skills to good use. Ilona is staying for two and a half months, and will also be making herself useful (hopefully) with her newly acquired vet skills.
The centre started as a simple horse washing facility, and has now grown into a functioning animal hospital with 25 stables. Most of the care they provide is free-of-charge, so relies on donations to keep on running. Because they've expanded so much, they are also now in desperate need of an isolation facility, so animals with infectious diseases (like equine 'flu and strangles) can be kept and treated away from others.
So we've decided to organise a 4 legs/2legs sponsored ride/walk across the South Downs from Brighton on the 12th September. Bring along your horse, dog, or just yourselves to help raise money for this fantastic cause. If you can't make the day or are feeling a little lazy, please donate anyway! Any amount will make a big difference.
Thank you!
