Story
Thank you very much to everyone who has sponsored me. I completed the RideLondon100 on 4 August 2013 in just under 7h30 despite my minimal training and technical problems with my bike brakes. I really enjoyed the race and I could not have done it without your support. Thank you for helping me to raise over three times my target sum of money for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign!
RideLondon100 is a 100 mile cycle race on the London Olympic road race route, starting at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford and ending on the Mall. The route includes the infamous and gruelling Leith Hill and Box Hill. Competitors have to complete 100 miles in under 9 hours. This was my first ever cyclosportive and I only got on a road bike for the first time at the end of April, so it was a challenge that I only completed thanks to all of your support and generosity.
Muscular Dystrophy is a congenital disease which is genetically very complex. There are at present no cures for this degenerative muscle Wasting disease and certain forms are fatal. MD is a disease that most people don't know much about and which receives comparatively little government funding for research.
I have chosen to raise money for the MD Campaign for a personal reason. About ten years ago, my cousin James was diagnosed with Upper Limb and Girdle MD, and his mobility is now severely reduced. His incredible courage in living with this debilitating disease has inspired me to do whatever I can to help those with MD.
