Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  All money donated on here will go directly to Cancer Research.  If you would prefer to donate specifically to research into Bowel Cancer you can do so via my other JustGiving page which is    www.justgiving.com/annedowman2016

Next month I will be taking part in the night time SHINE walk (my third year in this wonderful event).  This time I am doing the half marathon, I thought that was sensible as the Dublin marathon is only one month later. I have also entered the ballot for next year's London marathon (again) although after 6 previous unsuccessful tries I don't hold out much hope of getting a place.  But there is a back up plan if that is the case.  And I would like to enter Run Hackney again next year.

It's been a bit of a lazy year for me, although I did do the London Bridges walk for Kidney research and I'm hoping to do another one for Diabetes UK 2 weeks before the Dublin marathon.  Previously, from June 2011 - September 2014 I completed 7 marathons and 7 half marathons. On most of those I was accompanied by my power walking buddy Barbara who has been an invaluable fundraising partner as well as a great morale booster when the going got tough.

We have raised thousands of pounds for various charities including the Marie Curie charity, KIDS, Walk the Walk for Breast Cancer charities and of course Cancer Research.  I have a personal reason for wanting to fundraise for them.  I'm now the age my mum was when she died after battling cancer for years.  My dad also died of cancer 5 years ago and, like everyone else, I've also lost other family members and friends.  We've all been affected in some way or another by cancer, but we can also all help to beat it in the future.

You will find more information about my walking and fundraising (including "Dedicate a Ribbon") on my Facebook page:
