Central London Samaritans, based in Soho, is the founding branch of the charity. We provide a safe place for anyone who is going through a difficult time, whoever they are, however they feel, whatever life has done to them. For more info, please visit: www.samaritans.org/branches/central-london/

Story

I'm taking on 48 hours of endurance events to raise awareness, and hopefully a bit of cash, for the Samaritans. I'm specifically raising for the Central London branch. They've been running 24 hours a day without any downtime for 29 years. That means being there to answer the phone, text, email, or the door when people call in, and provide them with a confidential, safe and non-judgemental place to talk about what is bothering them.  All of this is provided by trained volunteer staff.

Keeping the branch running costs about £500,000 a year. I'm ambitiously trying to raise 48 hours worth of running costs, but I'll be happy, and so will they, with whatever I can make. You can read more about the charity here: http://www.samaritans.org/branches/central-london-samaritans

Here's my goal: 184km of hiking, running and walking and 763km of driving, all in 48 hours. Yup.

  • June 17th: National 3 Peaks Challenge:  Ben Nevis,  Scaffell Pike and Snowdon in less than 1 day. All in, that's 763km of driving, 42km of hiking in 24 hours or less. I'll have the company of 5 good friends to share the driving and help each other get up and down.
  • September 3rd: The Dingle Marathon, all 42 hilly kilometres of it. I'm aiming to do this bad boy in less than 4 hours. Just me this time.
  • September 10th: The Thames Path Challenge: 24 hours to walk 100km along the river thames. There are a few other volunteers from the central London branch joining me on this one.

Some frequently asked questions:

  • Will it hurt? - Yes. Yes it wlll, and the training already does. Why do you ask such sadistic questions?
  • Will you wear a mankini if I sponsor you £200? - No. Been there, done that, got the chafe marks to prove it.
  • Can I have pictures of your toenails? - Yes, if you like.
  • Is this the end of it? - I can't promise I won't pester you ever again for support, but I promise I won't do it for quite a while.
