Story
I, and others listed below, are raising money for Answers for AHUS.
Answers for aHUS is a fundraising partnership between Kidney Research UK and aHUSUK.
Some may know that aHUSUK is the charity that has supported myself, and my family, through a very difficult time following my son Jack’s diagnosis of atypical Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome in June 2014
Throughout the UK aHUSUK members, and their family members, have, and still are taking part in a “Journey for Life”, which started in Cornwall on February 28th (Rare Disease Day) and is to end in Newcastle Upon Tyne at the Centre for Life.
The Journey for Life has been at different stages of the UK with different members raising money and awareness of aHUS along the way. The Centre for Life has played a big part in the lives of patients of aHUS as they have carried out a lot of research into the causes and treatment of aHUS. A treatment has been found and the life saving drug, Eculizumab, has meant it has been possible for patients to live a normal life and also be able to have successful kidney transplants. Not so many years ago a kidney transplant was just not possible and the outlook of a life on dialysis wasn't so great either.
The charity is now looking to raise money to help in further research into the disease as there are still questions to be answered.
The Journey for Life’s final stage is on Sunday 20th September 2015 and is for a walk, starting at the Angel of the North ,and then to go over the bridges over the Tyne River and finally end at the Centre for Life. The route will be as follows (route to be added). Some walkers can join the walk at the Baltic Centre before going over the bridges.
Throughout the Journey a baton , a test tube containing a message, has been passed between participants, and at the end of this walk, my son Jack will hand the baton to Professor Tim Goodship to both complete the Journey and start the search for more Answers for aHUS.
In addition to myself the following people are using this Just Giving Page to raise funds for Answers for aHUS:
