Story
Hi...!!
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page and I hope it finds you well.
Well I did it folks. An open water 5.25mile swim along the length and back of Derwentwater; in trunks, a hat and gogs.
A glorious day initially, turning cloudy at the end of the swim, the lake was in a surprisingly calm state with little, if any, wind. A perfect day to be honest, with the water temperature mostly comfortable, albeit scattered with cold spots
Starting a good personal pace from the whistle, I only found myself losing speed in the last half hour, but was pleased with my finish time of 3 hours 18 mins and 59 seconds, coming home 8th.. This contrasted with the winner who arrived in a superb 1 hour 50 mins 54 seconds, with the first 6 swimmers being sub 3 hours, showing I am still firmly but happily placed as a 41 year old amateur.
All in all a great day, with myself very pleased with the result, particularly given I have had a 5 years absence from heavy swimming and knowing that £500 (inc giftaid) has been pledged in aid of Cancer Research UK from kind friends
Many thanks to Chris and Diane for crewing the support boat. A sterling job with out which I could not have taken part in the event..
Grateful thanks go to ALL those that have donated so kindly to this cause, which is very close to so many hearts.
