Having never run a single yard since I was about 18, despite having walked up and down a few hills in the meantime, I have decided to attempt this year's Great North Run. I am inspired by two things in the main - firstly I want to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK, a charity very close to my heart as my mum contracted it and ultimately died from secondary cancer not long afterwards. Secondly my son Dan is going to run the race too (and is also raising money for Bowel Cancer UK), and I figured that if he can do it then I should get off my backside and do it too!
