Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On Sunday 4th March, my house mates, Jasper, Hugo, Kaleem and I will be running the 2018 Bath Half Marathon for the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Charity.

PKD is disorder that causes kidney failure, damage to other organs and sometimes results in premature death. It is the most common inherited life-threatening disease in the world, affecting about 70,000 adults and children in the UK alone. However, as it affects much fewer people than some other illnesses and conditions, it naturally has a lot less funding. Consequently, every penny you can spare is dearly appreciated.

As some people may know, PKD is a condition that has affected a number of people in my family, including my mum who has recently started daily dialysis as a life support mechanism and is awaiting a kidney transplant (hopefully later this year) which will greatly improve her quality of life.

Until now, I have kept this hidden from a lot of people. It is something I have found very hard to talk about and come to terms with. However, I now feel confident enough to share this with my friends, feeling positive about the chances of my mum receiving a life-saving transplant.

The PKD Charity aim to fight this condition by funding research into the causes of the disease, promoting awareness and providing support to sufferers and their families. If you choose to donate, hopefully PKD will soon be a thing of the past with no need for dialysis or a transplant.

Thank you for taking time to read this and any donations, on behalf of all of us, would be greatly appreciated!
