Archie was born on 18th April - 2 weeks and 1 day past his estimated due date. He was born by emergency C section due to fetal distress. As a result of the complications of his birth, he suffered Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (lack of oxygen to the brain), Archie was transferred from St Georges hospital to Brighton's Royal Sussex County Hospital in the Trevor Mann Baby Unit (TMBU) for cooling treatment.
Archie's first day in Brighton looked bleak and he was very ill; his chances of survival were very low. Due to the work and care of the dedicated consultants and nurses of the TMBU unit - not to mention the strength and determination of Archie himself - he progressed daily and was eventually deemed well enough to be transferred back to St Georges hospital on 29th April.
Without the help and support of the wonderful staff at the TMBU unit, this beautful day would not be possible and, as a family, we are eternally grateful to them. As part of Archie's naming day, we have decided that we should give something back to the staff that have given our precious son to us.
