Story
Instead of spending this summer as I usually do, I intend devoting my spare time to what will probably be torture, as I intend cycling with two colleagues from John O Grotes to Lands End this September. We will each be riding to aid a charity of our choice. My charity will be Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
Why do I wish to do this?
During the course of my life I have been very fortunate with my health, my family, and a successful business. I now intend putting something back to help those less fortunate.
So what have we been up to prepare for the event?
Members of the cycle team, Scott Dwyer, Kevin Barber and I have been training since January and are now just about to achieve 80 miles per day.

Donations received toward our expenses
We would like to thank the following parties who have so far supported us. Citroenhave kindly donated a support vehicle for the duration of the event. Keymed (Olympus) has donated £600 towards funding equipment. Factotum has donated our GPRS and communication system. Southend Radio will be broadcasting our progress during the event. Teddy Taylor has kindly agreed to be our patron. John Barber has sponsored our plane tickets to get up to .
BUT … It’s not just about cycling
As you can imagine – to reach Lands End on a bike would not - on its own - change much in this world and this is where we need your support. Each of us on the team has set ourselves two targets.
– First is to reach Lands End on a bike knowing we covered about 1000 miles which would be a massive achievement, but also knowing that we have done all we can to help the less fortunate.
– Our aim is to raise a total of £50 000 amongst the 4 in our group, although as previously stated we will each support our own individual charity and ensure that 100% of all monies raised will go towards the charity.
