Every year Artsource gives two Western Australian artists an amazing opportunity to develop their artistic practice in another country. The creative development, knowledge and connections they can gain while away are without limitation. To provide these overseas ‘residencies’ for artists, Artsource relies entirely on donations and we are asking YOU to help us send two artists to their chosen destination in 2015!

Our Go Anywhere residencies allow artists to remove themselves from their normal routine and find inspiration in a new setting, immerse themselves in a different culture, build their practice and networks, and invest in new creative ventures. Since 2010, with the support of many donors, we have helped 10 artists achieve their international residency dreams.

For three months in 2014 artist Trevor Richards took his practice to Paris and a studio apartment in the centre of the city. He explains that after returning, “I felt refreshed and was looking forward to being in the studio. I felt like I had a wealth of ideas to draw on which will feed my practice for the foreseeable future. The manner in which residences take you out of your comfort zone and become a memorable event in one’s life allows for a stopping and restart of one’s practice.”

Artsource understands the vital importance of artists being able to broaden their practice and develop their careers through residencies. Every time an artist returns they describe the freedom and opportunities that an international residency gives, enabling them to be liberated in their practice while becoming ‘ambassadors’, promoting Western Australian art to the rest of the world.

The artists document their amazing experience while away, with Artsource supporting them from afar. When they return, artists share their experience with the Artsource community and public, which inspires more artists to consider the possibilities. ‘Knowledge is power’ and Artsource knows that initiatives like Go Anywhere are vital to building Western Australia as an international arts leader.
