Kiwoko Chase · 8 September 2012
The ISIS Foundation is an international development organization working side by side with communities and children in remote areas in Nepal and Uganda to improve their lives through health, education and other development projects. In 2007, Aspen joined hands with ISIS and the Kiwoko Hospital, a 25 acre compound employing over 350 staff, with 270 patient beds and offering a wide range of medical services, situated in the Luwero Triangle in central Uganda. Together, Aspen and the ISIS Foundation have been able to provide the hospital with a new and expanded Neonatal Intensive Care unit and a brand new maternity ward to properly treat mums before, during and after labour. In addition, Aspen helps people living with HIV through nutrition support, counselling and club services plus medicine which helps them stay happy and healthy. Most recently Aspen has committed to supporting all Safe Motherhood activities that are part of the larger community based health care programme.
Aspen has supported groups of employees to visit Uganda on a regular basis to experience first-hand the impact of the support from the company and its employees. This year we are part of a global group of 7 employees lucky enough to have our applications accepted for the Aspen/ISIS Ambassador trip to Uganda in September. This also provides us with the opportunity to take part in the Kiwoko Chase; a 10 mile (16.5K run) through the lush red and green fields of the Nakaseke district, alongside many of the local community.
With memories of the blog written by last year’s Ambassadors from the same event, and recollecting the cries of ‘Elephant man’ from the locals aimed at some colleagues as they stumbled through the local villages, then we are realistic about being the source of entertainment for the local community, especially given our current level of fitness!
To make the most of this public humiliation we are trying to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship for the very worthy cause of the ISIS Foundation and any support you can provide will be most welcome.
