Meet Austin. He is our lovely boy who has a real challenge ahead of him to overcome his life threatening condition. 

We found out when he was 8 months old that he has a very rare condition called Wiskott Aldrich Syndrome, which is only found in 4 in 1 million people. The cure is a bone marrow transplant, ideally before he is 5 years old. Until then the symptoms that he lives with are a poor immune system leaving him in danger from infections, low blood platelets which mean that his blood doesn’t clot properly and he can bleed internally or externally, he also had severe eczema which is associated with the condition but is currently under control and he is developing well. Unfortunately there are other serious considerations and he is at risk of having a stroke which cannot be predicted and the older he gets without having the transplant, the more chance there is that malignancies could occur such as leukaemia.
